A documentary about David Bowie’s final two albums, “The Next Day” and “Blackstar,” and his Broadway musical “Lazarus”.

In the second year of his return to Mars, it is difficult to not miss David Bowie more with each day. This film is a multifaceted look at his career, including his final years and focuses on the hundreds of relationships that contributed to Bowie's peerless persona. Bowie grabbed life until his last moments, and The Last Five Years offers fans a wealth of archival material of his concerts from his last tours and interviews with those close to him. This is now the most comprehensive look at Bowie.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Francis Whately has been making films for the BBC for 20 years. He has worked on acclaimed documentaries about artists Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock. His two feature-length films on Bowie – Five Years and The Last Five Years - were made in 2013 and 2016, respectively.
