Capoeira African slaves in Brazil in the 16th century developed Capoeira as a ‘Road to Freedom.’ They camouflaged themselves with dance, while using their bodies as a weapon. The necessity of hiding or conealing themselves turned Capoeira into their life philosophy and culture.
Hip Hop Hip Hop is a culture and lifestyle that evolved among minorities living in the USA under tough and impoverished conditions. Drawing influence from Blues, Funk, Soul and Jazz, Hip Hop emerged spontaneously around the late 70s, improvised by people who felt a need to express and entertain themselves.
Break Dance A style of acrobatic dancing originating in the mid-70s, often performed to rap music, usually by teenage males in the streets. It’s characterized by intricate footwork, pantomime, spinning headstands, tumbling and elaborate improvised movements.
